Marvellous Menthol, A Purifying Superhero

Marvellous Menthol A Purifying Superhero

There are around thirty species of mint that grow across the globe. They are perennial plants with leaves of all shapes and sizes - long, rounded, oval, large, small...

What they have in common is their gorgeous smell and the menthol they contain. Peppermint is the most widely used in aromatherapy and cosmetics. Originating in the UK, it's now grown throughout Europe, Asia and North America. This spearmint/water mint hybrid is recognisable by its strong, fresh smell.

Thanks to its soothing, antibacterial properties, mint essential oil is a key ingredient in face, body and hair treatments. As a beauty treatment, mint is usually found in floral water. Its refreshing, astringent, purifying and toning action soothes itchiness, redness and sunburn. Menthol also deeply cleanses skin, tightens pores and restores radiance to dull complexions. Finally, its purifying and astringent properties work wonders on oily or blemished skin, as it regulates excess sebum whilst cleansing at the same time.

To cleanse oily skin, mix 2 tablespoons of grated cucumber with 5ml of peppermint oil, add 2 tablespoons of green clay and apply the paste as a face mask. To exfoliate your skin, mix 3 tablespoons of salt with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 4 drops of peppermint essential oil. Gently scrub your face and neck to get baby soft skin. To keep cool, mix 30 drops of mint essential oil with ¾ of a bottle of filtered water and a ¼ of a bottle of apple cider vinegar. And enjoy spritzing yourself throughout the day!
