Help, I look mummified! Is my skin dehydrated?

The skin needs to contain 10-15% of water to be well-hydrated. But how do we know if our skin's dehydrated?

Here are the tell-tale signs:

Checklist: Your skin feels tight when you step out of your bath/shower; it wrinkles up if you pinch it; you notice fine lines around your eye contour and lips when you wake up in the morning that disappear as soon as you slather on your moisturiser; your skin feels rough and is increasingly hyper-sensitive.

If you face any of the above issues, then your skin is probably d(r)ying of thirst. But do not worry; it will just take a few weeks of moisturising for your dehydrated face to bounce back to its naturally plump self.
Tip
1
Moisturise your face first thing in the morning. Apply a glycerine- and/or hyaluronic acid-based serum and face cream. These are two thirst-quenching superheroes! Glycerin is naturally present in our bodies and therefore suits all skin types. It'll be soaked up by the epidermis the moment it touches your face and deeply rehydrate parched, dry skin.

Hyaluronic acid is also present in our skin. It's able to harness 1,000x its weight in water, which makes it the perfect solution for dry or dehydrated skin! Hyaluronic acid and glycerin-rich treatments soothe your skin and restore elasticity and firmness while giving you a healthy glow.

Tip
2
Adopt a gentle evening skincare routine. Avoid harsh products that can damage the surface of your epidermis. Apply a cleansing oil that will get rid of makeup and other impurities accumulated throughout the day. Another option is micellar water, which is perfect for sensitive skin. Don't scrub your skin clean; go gently, using small, circular movements and finish off with a spritz of thermal water.
Tip
3
Oil your skin before bed. Face oils are basically fats. They provide a nurturing, protective sheath so that your dehydrated face can regenerate overnight. The fatty acids and lipids in their formulae help reconstruct your skin's hydrolipidic layer, which get thrown out of sync as we age.
