Skin Care

Don't be Fooled by Springtime's Sun!

We've come out of hibernation and all we want to do is strip off and enjoy some vitamin D-boosting sunshine. But be warned girls - springtime rays are the worst. This is one time of year when protection is paramount!

The sun is out, and so are you

We're all the same, spring arrives and what do we do? Run outside and bask! On terraces, in gardens, at the bus stop, on the nearest beach. But, don't assume that springtime rays are any less damaging than their scorching summer sisters. Here's why - During winter our melanocytes take a break. And when our melanocytes are off duty, our skin lacks the photo protective pigments they produce. Which means springtime sun is a one way ticket to Sunburn City. Al fresco lunches, garden naps, shopping trips... No matter where we are, damaging rays are bouncing off every surface in sight. So, to avoid starting your summer burnt to a cinder, protect your skin!

Stay on top of your game

Remember that prevention is better than a cure and our post-winter skin needs extra loving care –

Avoid exposing your skin between midday and 4pm

Keep a travel size sunscreen on you at all times. There are plenty of gorgeous oils, milks, sprays

Reapply your sunscreen every couple of hours. A decent dollop will cover your body and a teaspoon's worth will protect your face

Pamper your pout. Lip skin is extremely fragile, so make sure you religiously apply a lip balm that contains SPF.

Protecting ourselves during spring is a flawless skin golden rule. The sunscreen you use should be adapted to your phototype and lifestyle. How your skin reacts to the sun, whether you're outdoorsy or not... It's vital you choose the right level of protection. If you're in any doubt, start with an SPF 50 and gradually lower the protection factor over time. Try the UV Perfect Transparent Skin by L’Oréal Paris to protect your skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun and prevent premature ageing. This will prepare and protect your skin so that you can strip off in safety!
