3 Homemade Skincare Treatments For Perfect Skin

To keep our healthy glow, we need to cleanse morning and night. It's essential if we want to rid our skin of toxins accumulated throughout the day and night (pollution, stress, smoke...). Gently exfoliate once a week using a fine grain scrub that won't harm your skin. This will rid you of dead skin cells and make it easier for your epidermis to soak up any treatments you apply. Scrubbing also boosts our circulation leaving our skin with a gorgeous, peachy look. Finish off with a moisturising treatment (cream, mask, serum) that suits your skin type and needs, i.e. anti-wrinkle, anti-fatigue, nourishing, soothing, revitalising etc. A well-moisturised, fresh, flawless complexion in three easy steps!

You don't need to raid your local chemist or homeopath to find the right ingredients for homemade skin care treatments. Nor do you need a math degree to work out the different dosages. These treatments are easy to whizz up using ingredients you'll find in your fridge and kitchen cupboards!

1. Homemade oil cleanser

Ingredients: Oil and that's all! Olive or coconut oil are good bets.
Instructions: Pour a bit of oil on to your palms and let it warm up. Gently massage it onto your face and eyes (keep them closed!) to get rid of make-up and impurities. Remove the oil using a cotton pad rather than a tissue as the latter could irritate your skin. You can always add 1/2 lemon juice for anti-bacterial and antioxidant action.
Result: A squeaky clean, supple, nourished complexion without a trace of make up in sight!

2. Homemade sugar scrub

Ingredients: 1 tbsp white caster sugar, 1 tbsp vegetable oil (olive, walnut, argan), 2 drops of lemon or grapefruit essential oil.
Instructions: Mix up the ingredients in a bowl with a spoon until you get a moist, sandy paste. Add a bit of hot water if the paste needs thinning. Massage the paste onto clean, dry skin using light circular movements, working from the centre of your face out. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Result: Smooth, dewy skin!

3. Homemade honey face mask

Ingredients: 1 egg white, 1 tbsp runny honey, 1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 1 tbsp yoghurt or fresh single cream.
Instructions: Beat the egg white until you get a fluffy consistency, then add the honey and lemon juice. Add the yoghurt and blend until you get a smooth mixture. Slather it all over your (cleansed!) face and neck, but avoid your eye contour. Pop a towel around your shoulders as it can be a bit runny and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing off.
Result: The moisturising yoghurt will refresh your tired features whilst its calcium content will boost skin cell renewal. As for the honey, it is packed with mineral salts, vitamins, and amino acids, all which soothe and soften the skin.
