Walking is a great way of burning calories with very little effort. It is the cheapest and most effective way to exercise. 45 minutes of walking a day, or the equivalent of 10,000 steps a day, is the figure recommended by doctors for overweight people to lose weight. Not only do you burn up 600 calories; the equivalent of a hamburger ; but you also build up your muscle mass, tone your body, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and strengthen the heart. Whenever you can, climb the stairs, and do 30 minutes of physical work or gardening.
Rich in fibre, vegetables fill you up straight away. They're a great way to feel fuller for longer without eating too much. They let you pile your plate up without adding too many calories. Tip : choose vegetables that purge, like asparagus, mushrooms, cucumber and leeks. These are high in potassium, which detoxify tissues.
