We've all come back from a summer holiday and binned our sunscreens. But not any more...
Even if the October sun doesn't feel hot, its rays are still damaging. Here are our autumn beauty tips.
UVB rays are weaker during autumn, but the UVA rays responsible for wrinkles and ageing skin are just as ferocious in November as in July. Having an outdoor cuppa without wearing a sunscreen can be just as harmful as sunbathing under a tropical sun!
You can, obviously, use up your summertime sunscreen. But it's not necessary to apply an SPF 50 during autumn months.
An SPF 30 is fine - just make sure it has filters that protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Autumn sunscreens should contain moisturising agents such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which will help your skin feel comfortable and supple during cold, damp months.
Even better, opt for formulae containing vitamins C and E or anti-ageing active ingredients.
Treatments that contain an SPF will enhance the protective action of a sunscreen. Alongside applying make up over a sunscreen, they will add a protective barrier to keep the rays at bay. That said, only a carefully applied sunscreen will do the trick if you're likely to be out in the sun for a long period of time.
