Winter Special: Homemade Scrubs To Soothe Our Dry Skin

Winter Special: Homemade Scrubs To Soothe Our Dry Skin

Facial skin dries out during winter. This is largely because it has to deal with temperature differences between centrally heated rooms and the freezing outdoors. So we need to follow a beauty routine that moisturises, nourishes and soothes our parched epidermis. Apply a day and night cream to protect your dry skin and prevent it from dehydrating. For a turbo-charged boost, apply a serum before your cream. Serums are intensive care in a bottle, thanks to their powerful active ingredients. You could also swap your usual night cream for a cold cream, which will strengthen your skin's natural barrier and prevent it from drying out. If your skin is ultra-dry, then go for vegetable oils. These are are lipid rich moisturisers that also nourish skin. That said, we shouldn't forget to scrub! Scrubbing gets rid of dead skin cells and allows creams to deeply penetrate and nourish our skin. In short, scrubbing's non-negotiable!

Fine, powdered almonds gently scrub without harming our skin. As for honey, it's packed with hydrating sugars that prevent our skin from becoming irritated. Finally, orange flower water is known for its soothing, regenerative properties.  You'll need: - 3 tablespoons of powdered almonds - 3 teaspoons of honey - 3 tablespoons of orange flower waterMix the ingredients in a bowl and immediately apply the paste to your face without massaging it on. Let it dry for ten or so minutes and then gently scrub with your fingertips, using small circular movements to remove dead skin cells. Rinse with warm water.

Sugar is a gentle exfoliant, but make sure you use white castor sugar for its finer grains. You'll need:- 1 tablespoon of castor sugar - 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil (olive, argan, walnut…) - 1 tablespoon of coconut milkMix the ingredients and apply to your face. Gently massage using small, circular movements, working out from the middle of your face. Rinse off with warm water.

Lemon has exfoliating and antibacterial properties that zap small blemishes. It's also packed with vitamin C, a natural antioxidant that brightens the complexion. As for the yoghurt, its calcium content boosts cell renewal. You'll need:- the juice from 1/2 a freshly squeezed lemon - 1 tablespoon of yoghurtMix the two ingredients to get an enzymatic acid peel that will remove dead cells and gently cleanse your face.Don't hesitate to test your homemade scrub by applying a small amount to the inside of your elbow or wrist, where the skin is more reactive and likely to show any allergic reaction.
