Tips for perfect skin this winter
Winter wreaks havoc with our skin with lots of patchiness, dryness and flakes. So, how can we get a glowing complexion, without a spot or red patch in sight? Just follow these easy skincare tips.
During winter, our skin bears the brunt of foul weather, dehydrating central heating, and also stinking colds and runny noses. Therefore, it needs extra care and protection. Start in the morning: no need to take out the heavy artillery of multiple skincare products. A simple spritz of thermal or floral water will get rid of toxins accumulated during the night without irritating your skin. In the same way, at night, gently cleanse with micellar water, face oil or a cleansing lotion that you can lightly massage on to your face.
It's freezing outside, but baking indoors. Temperature changes harm the hydrolipidic film, meaning our epidermis loses its protective barrier. To keep your skin soft and supple, apply moisturising, lipid-rich treatments. Try the new L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Crystal Micro-Essence that penetrates up to 10 layers deep into your skin to give you a bright and clear skin. It contains Salicylic Acid which accelerates skin renewal & mildly exfoliates to refine pores & skin texture. Dab it into your fingers and apply lightly on your face and neck.
To help your skin recover overnight, apply a treatment that's richer than your day cream. Cold cream or nourishing face oil will plump up the dermis and nourish the epidermis. And don't hesitate to slather on a hydrating face mask to soak your skin in goodness. Masks that can be left on overnight are great during winter, and you'll wake up to soft baby skin.
No need to apply a deep foundation to get a healthy glow. Stick to your usual colour, but opt for a thicker texture. Top it off with a touch of orange or pink blusher to give your winter skin a summer glow. Apply a dab of lipstick to finish the look: a richly-coloured, creamy, matt texture packed with nourishing, plumping and protective active ingredients will perfect your pout.
We are what we eat. Pay attention to your diet, as our skin needs healthy food to keep its youthful glow. Gorge on citrus fruits for their vitamin C, oily fish for omega 3 and 6, alongside vegetable oils, dried fruit and veggies for their carotenoid content. And, yes, a bit of chocolate is allowed to boost your energy. And don't forget to drink 1.5 litres of water a day - even if it's winter.
We're animals, after all. Winter = time to hibernate. Stay indoors to protect your skin against the harsh winter winds that strip off all the oil and moisture from your skin. Keep your skin hydrated and moisturised and enjoy a soft and bright skin.
