The art of digitopuncture the key to a youthful look

It's also known as acupressure, a type of massage that stems from traditional acupuncture techniques. It's a complementary practice, that balances our energies and organs by putting pressure on specific parts of the body. In other words, acupuncture without a needle in sight! It's a massage tradition that forms the base of traditional Chinese medicine and dates back over 5,000 years. It's a way of effectively treating health issues and preventing illnesses.

It involves stimulating the 14 major meridian points used in acupuncture. According to Chinese medicine, these are our body's energy highways. The idea here is to apply pressure to different parts of the face. You need to apply a gentle pressure and use small, circular movements to relax facial muscles as well a firm up and tone your skin. Digitopuncture can be done by a specialist, who'll use their hands as well as their elbows, feet and knees. The great thing is you can always switch on the telly and find a channel that willexplain the massage techniqueso that you don't even need to leave home!

Wrinkles appear between two muscles when one is too contracted and other too relaxed. By pressing and rotating your skin, you'll be able to smoothe outfine lines and wrinkles. It's easy but efficient - it only takes a few minutes! If you do it at least 3 times a week, you'll be able to decrease and help prevent the more annoying ones - frown lines, crow's feet, nasolabial folds

To attack frown lines, use your index fingers to massage between your eyebrows. Slowly massage in an anti-clockwise direction for 5 minutes. Follow by massaging more vigorously for 30 seconds, staying between your eyebrows at the same level as your frown line. For the nasolabial folds, place your index fingers above your top lip, at the corner of your mouth where you can feel a slight dip. Massage this zone every day using small, clockwise, circular movements for 2 minutes.Digitopuncture is a complementary medicine that should not replace medical advice. Anyone undergoing a medical treatment, older people and pregnant women should ask their GP's advice before trying it out.
