How To Get Glowing Skin While On A Diet

How To Get Glowing Skin While On A Diet

People go on a diet for a lot of different reasons. To lose weight and get healthy, to control their blood sugar levels, to eliminate certain allergens from their food intake etc. While reducing the intake of certain food groups is great for your overall health, excessively limiting your calories can also negatively impact your hair and skin. Loss of hair, dull and tired looking skin, and breakouts are common if you have been dieting excessively for too long. Here are some ways to combat the side-effects of dieting and preventing your skin from looking sallow and lacklustre.

1. Opt for protein-rich foods
Protein will fill you up, so you'll slim down without losing muscle tone. Protein from fish, meat, seafood and eggs penetrate the collagen fibres in the dermis. For a bit of variety, or if you're vegetarian, stock up on plant proteins such as soya and lentils.

2. Increase your hydration levels
Mineral water, herbal tea, soup and fruit juice will mineralise the body without piling on the calories. And don't forget: you need to drink lots of water on a high protein diet to flush out any toxins. Not only does drinking water flush out your body, but it also plumps the skin, particularly on the face.

3. Continue moisturising your skin
Drinking water is not enough to moisturise the skin. Make sure you apply a hydrating moisturiser, both morning and night. Dry skins will benefit from a richer, more nourishing formula. If you have wrinkles, go for a treatment that contains collagen and pro-retinol. Finally, if you have mature skin, choose a cream that helps you fight the signs of ageing like the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Moisturizing Night Cream. This night cream reduces fine lines and wrinkles, boosts skin firmness, youthfulness, and radiance, and enhances the skin regeneration process overnight.

If you have cellulite, opt for a cream rich in caffeine, an ingredient that can help to fight this orange peel effect. For mature skin that's more prone to sagging, apply a firming and nourishing formula to tone and brighten the skin.

4. Eat foods rich in antioxidants
Red and orange fruits and vegetables are packed with beta carotene, an antioxidant that boosts and strengthens the skin's natural defence system. So make sure you stock up on those carrots, peppers, sweet potatoes and squash.

5. Sweat it out
Even if you don't feel like it, a bit of exercise will burn calories and help improve your muscle tone. Our advice: focus on the mirror, rather than your scales. Your contours and tone are what counts. Plus, muscle weighs more than fat. In other words, you can slim down without losing lots of weight.
