Time to shake off the winter skin blues

The days are drawing out and the mercury's slowly but surely rising. We all love this time of year... daffodils, birdsong and longer evenings when the clocks go forward. But there's a drawback - our skin has a hard time dealing with seasonal changes. So first and foremost, give it a helping hand by religiously applying a moisturiser. Apply a day cream every morning and go for a nourishing formula at night: cold creams, repairing balms and body butters work a treat. Gorging your epidermis with water will plump up your face! Kiss goodbye to itchy legs, tight or ruddy skin and a sallow complexion. And don't forget to hydrate from the inside by drinking at least 1.5l of water or fruit/herbal teas a day.

Scrubbing's essential when the seasons change. Particularly at the end of winter! It will get your skin spring-ready by removing complexion-dulling dead cells. Months of cold, damp and driving winds parch the epidermis. You have tight and itchy skin. It looks ruddy and dull. The reason? Dead cells cling to its surface and prevent it from breathing. Applying a fine grain scrub won't harm your skin, but rather protect its hydrolipidic film. Apply your scrub using wide, circular movements, working up from your heels to your neck. Pay particular attention to any rough areas - knees, elbows etc. A weekly scrub is all it takes to get back soft, glowing skin!

The end of winter sees the clocks go forward. This can confuse our biological clocks and our skin! To balance out your body, adapt your sleeping hours and stick to a healthy lifestyle. Eat a balanced diet and aim for at least 7 hours sleep a night - it'll boost both your energy levels and your complexion! Pile your plate with skin-loving fruits and veg that are bursting with vitamins and antioxidants. Plus omega 3-packed oily fish will soften your skin. And the omega 6 found in vegetable oils and cereals will help prevent dry skin.
